This interactive EFL session introduces students to Shakespeare’s life and times, and to some of the historic properties in Stratford-upon-Avon, including Shakespeare’s Birthplace.

Through discussion activities, participants will practice using language in a nuanced way to talk about Shakespeare’s life. In small groups, the students will use their new language skills to design a tour of Stratford-upon-Avon’s historic sites.

Subject and key skills

This session will enable students to:

  • find out about Shakespeare’s life and times
  • independently design their own tour of Stratford’s key sites
  • engage confidently with guides at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust properties
  • discuss historical evidence
  • distinguish between facts and assumptions
  • speculate about the past
  • improve listening and speaking skills
  • expand vocabulary / acquire specialist vocabulary
  • improve range, accuracy, and fluency of expression.

Available: Monday – Friday

Length: 60 minutes (Allow time afterwards to explore Shakespeare’s Birthplace)

Group size: minimum 15 – maximum 25

Suitable for: students who can understand and communicate in English using a range of tenses, simple grammatical structures, and a limited range of vocabulary.

Learner levels: CEFR A2-B2, Trinity grades 3-9, IELTS 4.0-6.5, Cambridge ESOL: KET, PET, FCE.
