03 December 2013

Here at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust we’ve teamed with the University of Warwick’s Business School to offer a brand new interactive online course on the life and times of Shakespeare. Entitled Shakespeare and His World, the Massive Open Online course, MOOC, will launch during Shakespeare’s 450th anniversary year in 2014. The 10 week programme uses videos and online forums to explore the influences and legacy of the world’s greatest playwright. Shakespearian scholar Jonathan Bate CBE will be presenting each module, using items from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust’s archives, all filmed at the Shakespeare Houses and Gardens.

The course is now open for enrolment and has no cap on entries so we’re inviting people from across the world to take part and learn more about the Stratford’s favourite son. It is set to begin on March 3 and at the end of the ten weeks, you will receive a certificate of completion.

Jonathan Bate CBE, said: “This is a MOOC for anybody who is interested in Shakespeare, whether it’s your first stab at him or you know his plays inside out, there will be something on the course for you.”

The course aims to be a new and exciting way of linking people from all over the world with Shakespeare and will give you a behind the scenes exploration of the museum, library and archive collections held by the Trust, here in Stratford-upon-Avon.

The University of Warwick successfully launched their first MOOC last month. Thousands have signed up for The Mind is Flat a six-week course run by NickChater, Professor of Behavioural Science at Warwick Business School.
