The special seasonal installation, inspired by young Anne Hathaway’s experience of living through the winter in the Tudor period, will be displayed throughout the historic property and is included in the standard admission price.
‘’As part of our extended reopening celebrations, we wanted to bring a touch of festive charm to this beloved building for our visitors.
“This experience comes at no additional cost for those who have purchased a ticket to visit, making it the perfect time to join us in celebrating the season.”
Commented Samantha Smith, Head of Operations at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust (SBT).
As visitors enter the cottage, they will be able to see intricate glass ornaments inspired by green holly and ivy leaves, red berries, and Tudor-era flowers and herbs. These delicate artworks will be illuminated with LED battery operated lights, adding additional warmth and a touch of holiday magic to the historic building.
‘’After careful research, we created items that reflected Tudor traditions, whilst taking inspiration from the intricate patterns found in the furniture and tapestries at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, as well as the natural flora and fauna of the surrounding grounds that would have been recognisable to Anne Hathaway and her family at this time of year.
Working with the team at the Trust and immersing myself in the history of the cottage and Tudor Christmas traditions has been a wonderful experience, now I can’t wait for audiences to see these stunning creations in person.’’
Commented West Midlands-based artist Melissa Keskinkilinc.
As they take in the beautiful surroundings, visitors are invited to speak to the guides and learn about the array of festive traditions of the period and the history of the building.
The decorations will be in place from Monday 9 December, and will remain up until the conservation period begins on Monday 20 January 2025.
After exploring the cottage, visitors are invited to the Garden Café at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage to enjoy a selection of indulgent treats, including mince pies and festive hot drinks to keep warm.
