The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust (SBT) has collaborated again with the multi-award-winning Pinnock Distillery to create a new small-batch dry gin for Autumn inspired by Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
Consumers are in for a treat this autumn when the home of Shakespeare launches a new gin inspired by one of William Shakespeare’s most popular plays. The new Harvest Edition Gin promises to offer customers a taste of the season with every sip, as it is crafted with traditional botanicals and fruits.
"Our Harvest Edition is a tribute to seasonal ingredients and the sense of abundance in nature that Shakespeare evokes in his plays.
We were initially inspired by a beautiful passage from The Tempest in Act 4 scene 1, the blessing of the marriage of Miranda and Ferdinand by Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture and fertility:
Spring come to you at the farthest,
In the very end of harvest.
Scarcity and want shall shun you,
Ceres' blessing so is on you.’’
Said Adam Sherratt, Retail Development Manager at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.
The SBT’s retail development team worked closely with their established partners at Pinnock Distillery to create a delicious Harvest blend made with traditional Tudor botanicals as well as mulberries, apples, roses and honey from the gardens at Shakespeare’s New Place, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and Shakespeare’s Birthplace, and hedgerow fruits from the Warwickshire countryside.
‘’Using locally sourced ingredients hand-picked from our beautiful gardens, we’ve created something distinctive that we know our customers will enjoy. It has been fabulous to work with the team at Pinnock Distillery again to develop a carefully crafted gin that truly captures the essence of late summer and early autumn.
Now, we can’t wait for everyone to experience the delicious Harvest Edition Gin, this season and beyond!’’
Added Adam Sherratt.
With a distinctive flavour profile of mulberries and autumnal fruits, balanced with subtle herbal notes, zesty hops and a hint of rose, this traditional dry gin makes the perfect drink for a cosy autumnal evening.
The Harvest Edition Gin is best served with sparkling tonic and a slice of apple for garnish but can also be enjoyed with lemonade.
‘’We’re really pleased with the popularity of our Signature Edition and Midsummer Edition Shakespeare Gins, developed in partnership with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. This time we wanted to create something truly special, using locally grown seasonal ingredients that would have been very familiar to Shakespeare.
‘’So, whether you’re looking for a special Christmas gift or simply appreciate locally-crafted spirits, we invite you all to try the Harvest Edition Gin - it’s the perfect way to celebrate the season.’’
Added Daniel Beckett from Pinnock Distillery, based in Warwickshire.
The Shakespeare Gin Harvest Edition is available in 20cl bottles and 50cl bottles, with every bottle individually signed and numbered by the distillery, making it a unique gift.
The special edition ranges from £23 to £40 and is available exclusively from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, either online via its online shop or from any of the Shakespeare family homes in Stratford-upon-Avon.
