The team at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust (SBT) has collaborated with the multi- award-winning Pinnock Distillery to present an exclusive, small batch dry gin inspired by the Stratford-born writer’s iconic works and made with traditional botanicals harvested from the gardens of the Shakespeare family homes.
With Midsummer Day around the corner, the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, a museum dedicated to celebrating the life, work, and times of William Shakespeare, has joined forces with Warwickshire-based Pinnock Distillery to create a gin inspired by one of Shakespeare’s most famous works.
Shakespeare Gin Midsummer Edition features the subtle flavours of fruits, herbs and flowers that the playwright and poet references in his works.
‘’Using fresh ingredients found in the gardens of the Shakespeare family homes, and the wider Warwickshire area, we are offering our customers a distinct blend that they can’t find anywhere else.
‘’Inspired by one of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, our gin features a selection of classic gin botanicals carefully balanced with more unusual ingredients referenced in the play, such as quince, apricots, green figs and honey. What’s so special is that these are ingredients that Shakespeare and his loved ones would have been familiar with.’’
Said Adam Sherratt, Retail Development Manager at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.
The SBT’s retail development team and Pinnock Distillery worked together to create a bespoke beverage that celebrates and takes inspiration from Shakespeare’s works.
The unique blend features traditional Tudor botanicals such as angelica and cassia (cinnamon), blended with apricots, figs, lemon, fennel, and a touch of cubeb, as well as quince, lavender and honey, harvested from the gardens of Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, Shakespeare’s Birthplace, and Shakespeare’s New Place.
The result is a traditional dry gin with a clean, fruity taste and subtle floral notes, balanced with spice and citrus, and a hint of figs and honey, making it a perfect tipple for a midsummer's evening.
For a refreshing garden party drink, the dry gin is best served with ice, Mediterranean tonic, and slices of cucumber and citrus fruit.
"Creating this special edition gin has been a true labour of love. Ahead of Midsummer’s Day, we are thrilled to share this unique blend with gin enthusiasts and Shakespeare fans alike."
Added Daniel Beckett from Pinnock Distillery.
The Shakespeare Gin Midsummer Edition is available in 20cl bottles and 50cl bottles, with every bottle individually signed and numbered by the distillery.
The special edition ranges from £23 to £40 and is available exclusively from the Birthplace Shop on Henley Street in Stratford-upon-Avon, open seven days a week, and the SBT’s online shop.
