The Play’s the Thing
A new interactive workshop based on Shakespeare's enchanting play 'As You Like It'
In this play-building workshop children explore scripts and bring Shakespeare's wonderful language to life as they become travelling players, roaming the grounds and performing in Shakespeare's footsteps.
Based on As You Like It, the Play's the Thing workshop encourages children to create dramatic and musical interpretations for his words whilst immersing them in the magical setting of Mary Arden's Farm.
During this session children will:
- become travelling players and speak William's wonderful words in the grounds of his grandmother's home located in the Forest of Arden
- compose poems and write them out with a quill
- learn more about Shakespeare's wonderful characters, the enchanting Forest of Arden and the people who inspired him
- develop creative ideas
- engage with the social and historical context of the play and Shakespeare, the playwright, through artefacts and documents from the Trust's extensive archives
- stage snippet performances
- meet the animals referred to in the play
- learn to jig Tudor-style!
“It was an engaging day with the children involved from the minute they arrived. The staff were great and the children wanted more! Thank you."
