Speech Exploder

This workshop gives students the tools to unpack and understand Shakespeare's words, and the confidence to speak them out loud.

We will take one monologue from a play of your choice and explode it, breaking it into pieces to explore context, language, meaning and character.

Using theatre and oracy techniques, we will then put it back together again, creating a group performance that gets every student engaging with the speech and the thoughts and feelings behind it.

Key elements of the workshop include:

• Understanding of the text through close reading
• Analysis of language and imagery
• Exploration of context and characters
• Building confidence and oracy skills by creating a group performance
• Encouraging personal response, creative thinking, subjective interpretation and enjoyment of the text for all.

Duration: 90 minutes
Numbers: Maximum 60 students per session

Price*: £350 for one 90 minute workshop; £600 for two workshops; £800 for three workshops
