Earlier this month, members of our guiding team at Shakespeare’s Birthplace embarked upon audio description training with the assistance of the specialists at Vocal Eyes.
The training aimed to enhance our efforts to provide the best possible experience to all of our visitors, including those with visual impairments. During the session the team were encouraged to develop their use of descriptive narrative to highlight key visuals from the house. They also had a go at practical exercises including blindfolded tours of Shakespeare’s Birthplace under the audio guidance of a colleague.
The session provided an excellent opportunity for our guides to gain new insights from the trainers and to explore new ways to bring the story of the house to life. It also aids our continued efforts to make Shakespeare’s family homes accessible to the widest possible audience, and ensures our teams have the necessary skills to serve the needs of visitors who are blind and partially sighted.
We’re very grateful to the team at Vocal Eyes for providing such an engaging and informative training session.
