Today’s reveal is all about the Golden Garden. At the beginning of your journey through Shakespeare’s New Place, this landscape provides a way to connect with Shakespeare on an emotional level. To walk in through a beautiful landscape on the site of his home is a moving experience.
Nic Fulcher, Assistant Project Manager for the Shakespeare’s New Place project, explains: “Although it was once the site of New Place, the area is a registered garden and the landscaping and planting scheme have been an integral part of the design - offering year-round interest whilst also reflecting the changes in the seasons. The Golden Garden is also representative of Shakespeare's life, with 38 play pennants rising from it - one for each of the plays. His chair and desk are located at the top of the garden offering a view back across not only his home, but his body of work - the legacy to us that we are celebrating on the site.”
