We’re very excited that our family activity tent opened on Saturday 2nd May at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, welcoming its first 250 visitors across the bank holiday weekend.
The activities in the marquee are inspired by Shakespeare and nature, and the Cottage’s beautiful gardens and woodland walk provide the perfect setting for these hands-on activities. Our young visitors have the opportunity to make a Bard’s Beastie from a pine cone, create foam flowers to add to Oberon’s flower bank and try their hand at a brass rubbing to reveal William Shakespeare himself! Children are encouraged to go on a scavenger hunt in the woodland walk and use their finds to create environmental art. They can also identify the footprints of animals mentioned in Shakespeare’s plays and create their own woodland creature, inspired by the fairies in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
We were delighted to receive a number of glowing reviews over the opening weekend of the tent, including this one from a local family:
“Both my children were fully engaged with the activities. A fantastic day out. The added children’s activities will certainly encourage us to visit more often.”
Last year, the family activity tent was a popular attraction in the Great Garden at New Place and Nash’s House, welcoming over 10,000 visitors. We really hope that this new marquee will be just as popular and will be enjoyed by visitors young and old!
The marquee is open 12-4pm at weekends, Bank Holidays and every day throughout school holidays from now until November 1st. Come and visit yourself and spread the word to your family, friends and all the little people you know too!
