On Saturday 18 July we welcomed forty one of Anne Hathaway’s descendants to the cottage in the largest gathering of ‘Hathaways’ for almost 40 years.
It was a wonderful opportunity for Anne’s descendants - the youngest being just a year old – and their families to meet, share their stories with us, and update the already extensive family tree.
Roz from our collections team was on hand to cast her expert eye over the variety of family and cottage related objects that were brought along; providing advice and gaining valuable insight into those important items still held in family hands including a bonnet that belonged to previous cottage resident and fellow Hathaway descendant Mary Baker.
Entertainment was provided by the cottage’s own merry troupe of puppeteers, along with Elizabethan music and dance in period costume. Our visitors were also delighted at their brush with history and the opportunity to rub shoulders with ‘Real Hathaways’.
