Last Sunday afternoon we welcomed Jennie Maizels and Austin Tichenor to the Shakespeare Centre to celebrate their new children’s book, Pop-Up Shakespeare. We were delighted to have been asked by Walker Books to host the event, a reflection of our longstanding working relationship with them. From 2.30 p.m., an excited family audience was entertained with the story of how the book came about, how it was illustrated, and how it was paper engineered; younger audience members were then given the opportunity to act out favourite scenes complete with hats and props made by Jennie especially for the occasion! It was a fantastic event and really lovely to see how engaged and eager the children were. One family had travelled from Wiltshire especially to attend and we received some wonderful feedback on the afternoon. Signed copies of the book were very popular, and a number of other visitors also had the chance to meet the authors and pick up a signed copy at the drinks reception in the bookshop.
We’ve had some wonderful messages of thanks from Austin, Jennie and Walker Books, and I’d like to thank all those who helped me in the run up to the event and especially on the day.
