Early Modern Female Travellers

September's Research Conversation

What was it like to travel as a woman in the early modern period? How do we know? What might we learn about cross-cultural encounters?

For our September Research Conversation we'll be joined by Professor Nandini Das who will be following the adventures of three women travellers. Who were they? Where were they going, and why? What do we know about them?

Professor Das is a scholar of Renaissance literature, travel, migration, and cross-cultural encounters, and has published widely on these topics, from their appearance in the writings of major sixteenth and seventeenth century authors. She is a Fellow of Exeter College, University of Oxford and in 2023 was awarded the British Academy Book Prize for Global Cultural Understanding.

Led by Professor Nandini Das.

About our Research Conversations
Every month we host a live online talk, via zoom, which provides you with the opportunity to listen to people who are engaged in Shakespeare-related research. The talk begins with a thirty-minute presentation and followed by an open discussion.

All of our Research Conversations are completely free to attend, though we do encourage donations in order to support our work and keep Shakespeare's story alive. So if you are in the position to support us with a donation, no matter large or small, we would be incredibly grateful.

Listen back: If you were unable to attend our previous virtual Research Conversations, want a recap, or completely new to it and want to see what it's all about, you can catch up on our audio recordings .
