Shakespeare's Birthplace Offers a Behind-the-Scenes Look During Free Volunteering Taster Sessions This Autumn

Volunteer at Shakespeare's Birthplace

The home of Shakespeare is opening its doors on Sunday 29 September and Sunday 20 October for new Volunteering Taster Sessions, inviting individuals to experience how rewarding it is to volunteer at a busy museum.

Open to anyone over the age of 18, the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust (SBT) has organised the sessions for individuals who are interested in volunteering in the museum and heritage sector.

In return they are offering a behind-the-scenes look at what volunteering is like at the iconic childhood home of William Shakespeare. There is no requirement to sign up as a volunteer after the sessions, but support in making an application will be offered if attendees choose to do so.

Taking place on Sunday 29 September, and Sunday 20 October, the sessions will give participants the opportunity to shadow a knowledgeable guide, either inside the property, or in the Birthplace garden area, and ask questions about volunteering at the SBT.

“The Volunteering Taster Sessions are a relaxed option for those who’ve been considering volunteering but are not sure that it’s right for them. You will have the chance to find out what experiences are on offer as a volunteer and learn some fascinating facts about the life, works and time of William Shakespeare at the same time.’’

Commented Frankie Rhodes, Volunteering Officer at the SBT and organiser of the sessions.

Organisers are keen to show how rewarding and fulfilling volunteering can be. During the session attendees will also discover how flexible opportunities at the SBT are around other commitments, including work and family life.

‘’At SBT, volunteers play a crucial role in supporting staff and enhancing the visitor experience.

‘’This is an exciting time to join the Trust as a volunteer and support the team in delivering the second year of our multi-year programme, the Women Who Made Shakespeare. We’re looking for individuals who can help create a memorable and engaging experience for visitors.”

Frankie continued.

The Trust is also planning future sessions at other Shakespeare family homes in 2025.

Spaces for the taster sessions, which are free to book online, are limited. Those interested are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment.
